The North East Counties Cross Country was held at Meadowfield, Durham at the weekend. It was a cold day but the course was firm and there were some impressive performances. Times for the Crook runners were Malcolm Ingram 47.22 , Willie Bell 48.40 and Allen Purdham 59.34.

On yet another cold & wet venue at Blaydon the third Harrier League took place over a muddy 5½ mile course . Despite a limited number of club members they still achieved a steady 5th place in Division 2 which keeps them in 4th overall going into the second half of the series. The six counters were Keith Langridge in an excellent time of 32.21 (medium pack) , John Nunn 32.47 (medium pack) , Geoff Hewitson 35.23 , Dennis Brown 37.20 , Malcolm Ingram 35.21(medium pack) and Percy Parkin 38.41 . Other results are David Welsh 39.27 , Colin Everson 39.33 , John Nightingale 40.52 and Allen Purdham 45.48.

The second Harrier League event at Chester-le-Street took to the riverside venue on a freezing but slippery 5½ mile course. The club finished 4th team in Division 2 due to determined efforts of the six counters Keith Langridge 37th overall in 32.06 (medium pack) , Geoff Hewitson 35.00 , Willie Bell 35.56 , Peter Shuttleworth 33.47 (medium pack) , Dennis Brown 36.52 and Kevin Allen (medium pack) 34.44. Also involved were Ken Norman 37.54 , Percy Parkin 38.54 , Colin Everson 39.42 and John Nightingale 41.22.

Over at the Brampton-Carlisle 10 mile race Ian Sumler-Hutchinson ran 66.08 despite cramp at 7 miles , David Spark 68.17 , Gerry Hehir 69.02 , Julia Steele 71.13 , Martin Lowrie 73.15 and Alan Thompson 101.04.

At the Richmond Castle 10km on the 17th October Keith Langridge finished 6th overall in a very good time of 38.18 on a hilly course , Geoff Hewitson 40.55 , John Dennis 43.13 and Ian Bainbridge 47.05.


Last weekend saw Karen Partridge & Jeannette Sumler-Hutchinson team up for the arduous Karrimor Mountain Marathon in the Brecon Beacons where the 2 day event over 50 km tests the body & soul. After a total running time of 16 hrs.36 mins the ladies galloped into 192nd place in Class B with club colleague Julia Steele 4 mins adrift with her running partner in 193rd place.


The first Winter harrier league at Sunderland 6 mile event resulted in the clubs first 6 team members finishing 4th in Division 2. John Johnson was first back in 35.57 , then John Nunn in 33.39 running from the medium pack , Geoff Hewitson 36.28 , Malcolm Ingram 35.25 , Ian Sumler-Hutchinson 35.26 and Dennis Brown 38.50 . John Dennis ran 36.42 , Percy Parkin 39.29 , Colin Everson 39.50 , Ken Norman 40.05 and John Nightingale 46.42.

Sunday was the final event in the Durham Dales Challenge 2004 series and due to Geoff Hewitson finishing 8th on the Ayhope Skyline 10 mile race he ended the series 4th overall ; John Johnson was 7th in the race , Martin Harbisher 9th which made him 5th overall , Allen Purdham & Alan Thompson also completed the race. Whilst Karen Partridge missed this final race she had sufficient qualifying results to finish 2nd lady overall .
